John Warren Geils, Jr. better known as J. Geils – guitarist and leader of the J. Geils Band – was found dead at his home in Groton, Massachusetts yesterday (April 11.) He was 71. Although local Police are investigating his death, no foul play is suspected.

J. Geils founded the J. Geils Band in 1967 who then released their self-titled debut album in 1970. The band would go on to release another 10 albums, though their biggest hit was unquestionably, “Centerfold,” (from their album Freeze Frame) which topped the charts for six weeks back in 1982, and has remained one of the decades most memorable hits. The band split up just 3 years later though went on to reunite on and off for almost another 20 years until J. Geils permanently left the band in 2012.
