Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Beiber have teamed up to collaborate on the global hit “Despacito.” It tops the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for the 11th straight week. It is the first mostly Spanish-language song to claim the spot since the “Macarena” in 1996. The only other song to achieve this worldwide success in history was Ritchie Valen’s “La Bamba.” The Hot 100 ranks songs based on combined activity from sales, streams and radio airplay making “Despacito,” the giant in all three categories. It reigns supreme over it’s next closest competitor; DJ Khaled’s “Wild Thoughts,” which features Rihanna & Bryson Tiller at #2. “Despacito” has also sold more than 100,000 downloads in each of the last 11 weeks, marking the longest such streak since Adele’s “Hello” in 2015-16. The song doesn’t appear to be losing steam anytime soon as it demonstrates crossover appeal with presence on adult pop, adult contemporary and Latin charts.
